How to Measure a Roof
Step 1 Measure the Length of Sheets Required
Measure from the eaves (bottom edge) to the ridge (top) of your roof slope. It’s important to take measurements at several points along the slope, as roofs are not always perfectly square. SCANDION sheets can be manufactured up to 8 metres long. For longer spans, sheets may need to be joined on the roof, which should be considered during planning.
Ensure your roof has a minimum pitch of 14 degrees. SCANDION is not suitable for flat roofs.
Step 2 Measure the Width of the Area
Measure the total width of the roof at the eaves (again it is worth taking a measuement from the ridge incase the roof is not square). To calculate the number of sheets needed, divide the width by the cover width of your selected SCANDION profile:
495mm (wide profile)
285mm (narrow profile)
Always round up to the nearest whole sheet to ensure full coverage and allow for overlaps.
Step 3 Check the Roof Pitch

Installation FAQs
SCANDION Roofing System
-
SCANDION uses a click-lock system—one side is screwed down to the rood deck and the next sheet clicks and locks over it, hiding all fixings and eliminating the need for specialised seam folding or crimping tools.
-
No specialist tools are required for basic installations. Most projects can be completed with standard tools like a cordless drill, tin snips, rubber mallet, and measuring tape.
-
With some experience and the right tools, confident DIYers can install SCANDION. For more complex roofs (hips, valleys, dormers), we recommend consulting a professional roofer.
-
The first thing to do when installing a SCANDION roof is to fix the eaves board and make sure it is square, the first sheet is then hooked onto the eaves board and screwed down to the rood deck through the pre-drilled flange. Make sure it's aligned correctly—every sheet afterwards will lock in based on the position of the first.
-
Each sheet overlaps the fixing edge of the previous one, clicking into place and covering the screws, creating a clean, fixing-free finish.
-
Sheets can be cut using a metal shear or tin snips. DO NOT use angle grinders as they can damage the coating.
-
SCANDION is typically installed on a solid deck with underlay, but it can also be used on a batten installation with proper support and spacing.
-
Yes, but with caution. Walk only on areas supported by decking or battens. Use soft-soled shoes to avoid marking the surface.
-
Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and structurally sound. Install a suitable breathable underlay for added weather protection.
-
The SCANDION system has standard valley and hip flashings that can be used. For more information contact our sales team.
-
A ridge cap flashing should be used. It sits over the top of both sides of the roof and is secured into place with screws onto the ridge cap fastening strip.
-
For most residential roofs, expansion joints are not required due to the short sheet lengths and the systems slotted fixing system. For very large roofs or exposed locations, consult our technical team.
-
SCANDION is fully compatible with standard guttering systems. The eaves board flashing directs water flow cleanly into the gutters.
-
SCANDION requires a minimum roof pitch of 14 degrees for effective drainage and warranty compliance.
-
Use a flashing that overlaps the edge of the final sheet and secures to the side wall or verge board for a neat finish.
-
SCANDION is designed to lock securely into place and resist wind uplift. Ensure proper fixing at the correct intervals for best results.
-
Yes. Panels can be mounted using brackets that clamp to the seams without penetrating the roof surface, consult your solar panel manufacture for suitable mountings.
-
If the coating is scratched, use a touch-up kit. For dents or significant damage, it’s best to replace the sheet before locking the next one in place.
-
Installation time depends on the complexity of the roof. A straightforward roof can often be completed in 1–2 days, while complex roofs with valleys and hips will take longer
